The Silver Band joined Lanark & District Pipe Band, The Choir of St Mary’s, Lanark Grammar School Drama Department, ICE, LAMS and both Juniors & Seniors from Lanark Panto Club.
The evening was hosted by entertainer Edward Reid and was well received by the capacity audience. The band then turned to their flugel horn soloist Calum Miller in Alan Fernie's arrangement of the second movement of Concierto de Aranuez. They continued their programme with the title music from the hit American TV series Hawaii Five-O, featuring the their principal cornet Calum Blair. The band’s final piece was Matthew Hall’s, Calon y Ddraig - (Heart of the Dragon). This rousing work was commissioned by the Tredegar Town Band to finish their Brass in Concert programme at the 2012 contest held at The Sage, Gateshead. Using 2 traditional Welsh folk songs (Dacw ‘Nghariad, Y Deryn Pur) along with 2 favourite Welsh hymns (Calon Lan, Cwn Rhondda) and the national anthem (Mae hen wlad fy nhadau).
Band President Alan Court commented, 'the band were thrilled to be invited to this prestigious event and thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful reception from the enthusiastic audience, it was also nice to support the work of Poppy Scotland.'
Approximately £800 was raised for the charity and the band were also delighted to be using 2 new instruments purchased through the support of the Asda Carrier Bag Community Grants programme.
The band has a full diary of events, with the Low Parks Museum Open Day in Hamilton and their 'Night at the Movie's' concert at the Livingstone Memorial Church in Blantyre next month.
